Whether visiting family or immigrating to Canada permanently, let GMS help you cover the cost of emergency medical treatment and care.

Immigrants & Visitors to Canada features:

  • No wait period if you apply for coverage before your arrival in Canada. There is a 48 hour wait period if you apply within 30 days of your arrival in Canada.
  • More choices:
    • You choose the deductible; $0, $100, $500 or $1,000.
    • You choose the amount of coverage; $25,000, $50,000, $100,000 or $150,000 per person.
    • You choose the number of days you are covered for your trip; up to 365 days if you are 54 years of age or less; up to 180 days if you are 55 - 79 years of age.
    • Staying longer than you planned? Call GMS 48 hours or more before your coverage ends and we will help you extend the number of days you are covered for.
  • Simple application:  Apply on-line before or after your arrival in Canada. It only takes a few minutes. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
  • No medical questions if you are 54 years of age or younger.
  • Travel coverage within North America included: Your plan includes emergency medical travel coverage for trips in Canada, the United States of America and Mexico.
  • GMS Customer Service. Call GMS travel medical assistance toll-free for help obtaining treatment and coordinating your care. Many health care providers will bill GMS direct, send other bills to GMS for prompt claim reimbursement.

Benefit Detail
Hospitalization Hospital room and board charges, up to semi-private, unless specified by a physician. If medically necessary, charges for intensive and coronary care units are included.
Medical Services Treatment by physician or surgeon.
Diagnostic Services X-rays and other diagnostic tests.
Out-Patient Treatment Out-patient emergency room charges.
In-Hospital
Prescription Drugs
Prescription drugs and medication prescribed by a physician. Maximum of a thirty (30) day prescription.
Road Ambulance Covers 100% of emergency transport to a hospital.
Paramedical Services Up to $300 for the emergency services of an osteopath, physiotherapist, chiropractor, chirodist, and/or podiatrist.
Accidental Dental Up to $2,000 per injury and up to $250 for the relief of dental pain.
Return of Remains Preparation and transportation to your country of origin, destination in Canada, or the cost of cremation or burial at the place of death.
Child Care If you are hospitalized, up to $500 for licensed child care for a dependant that is traveling with you.
Coverage Continuation If coverage expires while hospitalized, coverage will continue for all covered persons up until 72 hours after discharge from the hospital.
Out of Pocket Expenses Accommodations, meals, phone calls and taxi or bus fares incurred by an accompanying family member in the event hospitalization continues after the policy expiry date.
24-Hour Travel Assistance Services Coordination of all medical care, transportation, and repatriation; telephone interpretation services in most languages; monitoring of progress during treatment and recovery by managed care.
Travel Benefits Outside of Canada For trips of 365 days or less (for those under 55 years of age) or 180 days or less (for those aged 55-79) made in Canada, United States and Mexico.

Covered expenses:

  • Air Ambulance - charges to transport you back to your province of residence for further in-hospital treatment.
  • Special Attendant - reimbursement of a one-way trip economy airfare ticket for a medical attendant to accompany you back to your province of residence or country of origin for further in-hospital treatment.
  • Escort of Insured Children - reimbursement of the cost of a one-way trip economy airfare to return an accompanying child or children and escort, when necessary, back to your original point of departure.
