Today is the 11th annual Bell Let’s Talk Day across Canada - an initiative designed to create conversation, break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and support programs and services offering help to Canadians dealing with mental illness.

The theme of this year’s Bell Let’s Talk Day is ‘every action counts.’ Inside GMS, we’ll be hosting virtual staff rallies. This will provide an opportunity for staff to share actions, big and small, that each of us can take to make a difference for others and for ourselves to maintain and enhance our mental health. Prior to the rallies, staff were also encouraged to spark conversations about mental health by using a virtual mural board to share things they struggle with or find difficult.

Recognizing the importance of supporting mental health, GMS has partnered with Homewood Health and Morneau Shepell to offer our Group Plan members and Personal Health customers a variety of supports and tools.

All GMS Group Advantage plan members, as well as our Custom Group members subscribed to our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) or Member Assistance Program (MAP), have access to a variety of mental health resources through Homewood Health. Help from Homewood Health is available 24/7, offering counselling for any challenge.

All GMS Personal Health plan members have access to LifeWorks by Morneau Shepell. LifeWorks offers a wealth of resources and tools to help improve an individual’s mental wellbeing. LifeWorks also provides 24/7 access to consultations with expert advisors for coping strategies, referrals to counselling, and connections to community agencies.

To date, Bell Let’s Talk has committed to fund more than $113.4 million to mental health initiatives across the country, while shining light on the supports and programs available to those suffering from mental illness.
