September 26, 2025: Canada Post is now on a nationwide strike, and mail service is paused nationwide. New mail and parcels are not being accepted, and items already in the system will be delayed until service resumes. We are monitoring the strike closely and will continue to update this page at the strike progresses. To avoid disruptions, here’s what you need to know:
How will this affect me as a customer?
The strike has caused delays in receiving paper mail, including cheques and benefit statements. We strongly encourage you to use our online services to submit claims, view your benefits, and receive reimbursements via direct deposit to avoid delays. If you haven’t already, sign up for My GMS to access your online services.
How can I avoid delays after the strike?
You can avoid postal delays by:
- Activating your My GMS account for easy access to claims and benefit information.
- Setting up direct deposit for fast claims reimbursements.
- Submitting claims online using our mobile-friendly form.

May 23 2025 | Overtime ban takes effect; Canada Post confirms operations continue, warns of potential delays. |
May 28 2025 | Canada Post presents “final offers” to CUPW for both Urban and RSMC bargaining units. |
May 30 2025 | Canada Post formally asks the federal government to order a vote on those final offers. |
June 12 2025 | Minister of Jobs & Families directs the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to conduct a nationwide vote of postal workers on the final offers. |
June 20 2025 | First CIRB meeting held to set details and timing of that vote; schedule still to be confirmed. |
July 14 2025 | CIRB rules on the contents of the final offers to be voted on in the government-imposed process. |
July 16 2025 | CIRB issues Notice of Vote; nationwide vote scheduled for July 21–August 1. |
July 21 2025 | Voting opens 7:00 a.m. EDT; vote to run until 5:00 p.m. EDT on August 1. |
August 1 2025 | CUPW members in both Urban and RSMC units reject Canada Post’s final offers. |
August 13 2025 | Canada Post says the parties will return to the table with federal mediators to hear CUPW’s response to the May 28 offers. |
August 15 2025 | Canada Post updates that, due to mediator availability, the meeting is moved to Wednesday, August 20. |
August 20 2025 | Mediated talks resume; Canada Post receives CUPW’s response and schedules further meetings. |
August 27 2025 | Canada Post urges CUPW to revisit its offers to align with the company’s realities (negotiations update). |
September 12 2025 | CUPW announces a ban on delivery of Neighbourhood Mail (unaddressed admail) effective September 15 at 12:01 a.m. local time. |
September 18 2025 | Canada Post says it will present new global offers in response to CUPW’s recent proposals and return to bargaining the following week. |
September 25 2025 | CUPW launches a nationwide strike; Canada Post confirms mail and parcel services are halted. |
September 26 2025 | Strike continues; Canada Post operations remain paused, with significant nationwide service disruption. |
