GMS: A Natural Fit with the Queen City Marathon

GMS shares a similar origin story with the Queen City Marathon. Our sponsorship over the years? It’s a natural fit!

Just as local Regina runners created the marathon after noticing it was the only provincial capital without one, GMS roots are embedded in a small group of Saskatchewan people who saw a problem and found a solution.

Our Story

From "Broken arm? Sell the farm?" to Community Care

In the 1930s, a few individuals realized collaboration could prevent financial ruin from medical bills. Each person committed to contributing a set monthly amount to a fund for medical expenses, so a broken arm no longer meant selling part of the family farm. Since then, we’ve grown into a Regina-based non-profit organization dedicated to helping people manage health, dental, and travel insurance expenses.

More Than Just Sponsors

GMS continues a tradition of community building by reinvesting our profits into health-focused initiatives, aiming to give back more to our communities. Continuous improvement to our products and services enhances this support, and we’re proud of partnerships like our ongoing sponsorship of the Queen City Marathon.

We don’t simply donate money - our staff volunteer all weekend long. You might see us handing out medals, working at refreshment stations, and even participating in races.

Having a race partner like GMS has been instrumental in helping the Queen City Marathon grow to become Saskatchewan's largest race weekend. From encouraging staff and their families to participate race weekend, to setting up multiple volunteer activations, and to showing up with some of the coolest race weekend extras like a 6' birthday cake or 2' medals, they go above and beyond to support participants and volunteers.
